How to join Zoom, Google Meet and Teams meetings in one click on a Mac

Stop hunting for meeting links. How to join video calls in one click on a Mac, with the built-in Calendar app, Google Calendar, MeetingBar, Notion Calendar, Dato, Fantastical or NotchDesk, plus alerts that make sure you’re never late.

Short answer

macOS Calendar only shows a Join button for FaceTime calls; for Zoom, Meet and Teams you open the event and click the link. To join any of them in one click, use a menu bar app that reads your calendar and spots the meeting link: MeetingBar (free, open source), Notion Calendar (free), Dato ($18) or NotchDesk (our app, which puts a countdown and Join button in the MacBook notch and joins with ⌃⌘ J from any app). All of them can also alert you a minute before the call.

What macOS and Google Calendar do on their own

  • macOS Calendar: double-click an event and click Join, or use Join in the notification, but only for FaceTime calls. Its “Add Video Call” option is FaceTime-only. For a Zoom, Meet or Teams invite, you open the event and click the link in the location or notes.
  • Google Calendar on the web: click the event, then Join with Google Meet, then Join now in the lobby. It works, but it lives in a browser tab you have to find first, and there’s no keyboard shortcut for joining.

Neither is bad, but both make you hunt. The fix is a small app that reads your calendar, finds the meeting link and gives you one button (or one shortcut) to join.

First: get all your calendars onto the Mac

Most one-click join apps read the calendars macOS already has. If your meetings are in Google Calendar or Outlook, add those accounts once:

  1. Open System Settings → Internet Accounts.
  2. Click Add Account and choose Google, Microsoft Exchange or another provider.
  3. Sign in and turn on Calendars.

Your events, including their Meet, Zoom and Teams links, now appear in the Calendar app, and any app with calendar access can see them. Your password stays with macOS; the apps never see it.

MeetingBar: best free option

MeetingBar is free and open source. It shows your next meeting in the menu bar, joins it in one click or with a global shortcut, and can show a full-screen alert when it starts. It recognizes more than 50 services (Meet, Zoom, Teams, Webex, FaceTime, Discord and many more) and reads macOS Calendar or Google Calendar directly. It needs macOS 12 or later. The last stable release (4.11.6) is from June 2025, and a rewritten version 5 was in release candidates in mid-2026.

Notion Calendar: free, if you live in Google Calendar

Notion Calendar’s menu bar lists upcoming events with a Join action, and you can set system-wide shortcuts to join a meeting or show the menu bar. It’s built around Google Calendar and Google Meet.

Dato: a polished calendar menu bar

Dato, by Sindre Sorhus, is a menu bar calendar and world clock that can join the current or next video call from its menu or a shortcut, with a full-screen notification at the start time. It supports 50+ services and costs $18 once (also in Setapp). The current version needs macOS 26 or later; older builds are available for earlier systems.

Fantastical: if you already pay for it

Fantastical Premium detects conference links in events (including in the notes) and shows a Join button near the start time, including next to its menu bar icon. The free version doesn’t include Join.

NotchDesk: a countdown and Join in the notch

This is our app. Instead of a menu bar item, NotchDesk puts your next event beside the MacBook notch with a live countdown as it gets close. A minute before each meeting, the notch grows into an alert with Join, Snooze and Dismiss. Press ⌃⌘ J in any app to join the meeting in progress or the next one starting within 10 minutes (⌃⌘⇧ J copies the link instead).

It recognizes Google Meet, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Webex, FaceTime and Slack huddle links, plus Whereby, Amazon Chime and others, even when Outlook has wrapped them in Safe Links. You can choose how each service opens (Zoom and Teams in their apps, anything else in the browser you pick). During the call, the notch shows how long is left. Macs without a notch get a small island at the top of the screen instead. It also keeps your clipboard history, which is handy for pasting the agenda you copied earlier.

Five habits that keep you on time

  1. Put the video link in the invite’s location or URL field, not buried in a long description, so every app can find it.
  2. Use an alert you can’t miss. A small notification is easy to swipe away; a full-screen or notch alert isn’t.
  3. Hide what isn’t a meeting. Most of these apps can skip all-day events, “Focus” blocks and events you’ve declined, so the next item is always a real call.
  4. Pick the app each service opens in. Joining Zoom in the browser and then switching to the app wastes the first minute.
  5. Check your camera before you join. NotchDesk’s alert has a camera check, and macOS lets you preview your camera in FaceTime or Photo Booth.

Questions people ask

Can the Mac Calendar app join Zoom or Google Meet meetings?

Not with a Join button. macOS Calendar shows Join for FaceTime calls only. For Zoom, Meet or Teams, open the event and click the link in its location or notes, or use a menu bar app that turns those links into a Join button.

What is the best free app to join meetings from the Mac menu bar?

MeetingBar: it’s free and open source, supports 50+ meeting services, and reads macOS Calendar or Google Calendar. Notion Calendar is also free and has a Join action in its menu bar.

Is there a keyboard shortcut to join my next meeting on Mac?

Not built into macOS. MeetingBar, Notion Calendar and Dato let you set a global shortcut. NotchDesk uses Control-Command-J to join the meeting in progress or the next one starting within 10 minutes, from any app.

How do I get Google Calendar meetings into the Mac menu bar?

Add your Google account in System Settings → Internet Accounts and turn on Calendars. Apps that read macOS Calendar (MeetingBar, Dato, NotchDesk and others) then see your Google events, including their Meet links.

How do I stop being late for video calls on Mac?

Use an alert you can’t miss rather than a small notification: MeetingBar and Dato can show a full-screen alert at the start time, and NotchDesk grows the notch into an alert with a countdown and a Join button a minute before each event.
