License terms

The end user license agreement for NotchDesk. It’s written to be read, but it is still a legal agreement.

Last updated 9 October 2026

The agreement

These terms are an agreement between you and Synthcoder (“we”, “us”), the maker of NotchDesk (“the app”). By installing or using the app, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, don’t install or use the app.

NotchDesk licenses are sold by Synthcoder through Dodo Payments, which is the merchant of record for every purchase: it takes the payment, handles VAT, GST and sales tax, and appears on your receipt. Dodo Payments’ own terms apply to the payment itself, including taxes and receipts. These terms cover the app and your license.

Your license

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the app on Macs you own or control, under these terms. The app is licensed to you, not sold. We keep all rights we don’t expressly grant.

Free trial and licenses

  • NotchDesk is a paid app. The first time you open it on a Mac, a 14-day free trial of every feature starts. There is one trial per Mac, and reinstalling doesn’t restart it. No account or payment details are needed.
  • After the trial, using any part of the app requires a NotchDesk license, including the calendar and meeting features. There is no free version.
  • When the trial ends, your saved data (clips, notes, snippets and settings) stays on your Mac. Activating a license unlocks everything again.

Licenses and Macs

  • A license is sold per Mac. A 1-Mac license may be active on one Mac at a time; a 3-Mac license may be active on up to three Macs at a time. A subscription may be active on up to three Macs at a time.
  • You may move a seat to another Mac by clicking Deactivate this Mac in NotchDesk’s settings on the old Mac and activating the license on the new one. If you can’t reach the old Mac, email us and we’ll help.
  • License keys are for you (or, for a business purchase, for the people you buy them for). Don’t publish or share them.

Purchase, price and updates

  • NotchDesk is sold in two ways. Founders’ lifetime licenses are one-time purchases, offered only to the first 100 buyers ($25 for 1 Mac or $49 for up to 3 Macs). After those are sold, NotchDesk is sold as a subscription ($9 a month or $89 a year, for up to 3 Macs). Prices are shown in US dollars; Dodo Payments adds VAT, GST or sales tax where it applies.
  • A founders’ lifetime license includes every update to NotchDesk, including future major versions, for as long as Synthcoder publishes the app. It never needs a subscription.
  • A subscription renews automatically at the end of each month or year until you cancel. You can cancel any time from the link in your Dodo Payments receipt or by emailing us; it then stays active until the end of the period you’ve paid for, and NotchDesk asks for a license again after that. Subscriptions include every update while they’re active. If we change the subscription price, we’ll tell you by email before your next renewal.
  • After your purchase, Dodo Payments emails you your license key. The app checks with Dodo Payments from time to time that your license is valid. A license that has been refunded, charged back or disabled for misuse stops unlocking the app.

Refunds

If you ask within 14 days of your purchase (for a subscription, of your first payment), you’ll get a full refund. Email support@notchdesk.com with your order number or the email address you bought with. Refunds are paid by Dodo Payments to your original payment method, and the license is deactivated. This doesn’t limit any rights you have under consumer law where you live.

What you may not do

  • Get around or disable the trial or license checks, or help others do so.
  • Sell, rent, lend, sublicense or share the app or your license key, except as these terms allow.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the app, except where the law allows it despite this restriction.
  • Use the app to break the law or anyone else’s rights.

Your data

Your clipboard history, screenshots and calendar stay on your Mac unless you turn on a feature that shares them, such as iCloud sync (to your own iCloud Drive), Time to leave (an event’s address goes to Apple Maps) or an AI assistant you connect. You’re responsible for what you copy and keep in the app and for keeping your own backups. Our privacy policy explains exactly what the app sends over the network.

Other services

NotchDesk shows events from calendar services you’ve added to macOS, opens meeting links (such as Google Meet, Zoom or Microsoft Teams) in their own apps or websites, and shows what’s playing in Music or Spotify, including Spotify’s album art. If you turn them on, it also uses Open-Meteo for the weather, Apple Maps for travel times, your iCloud Drive for sync, and any AI assistant you connect. When you convert a currency, it gets exchange rates from frankfurter.app, and the Shortcuts launcher runs your own shortcuts from Apple’s Shortcuts app. Purchases, license keys and license checks go through Dodo Payments. Those services are run by others under their own terms. We don’t control them and aren’t responsible for them. NotchDesk is not affiliated with Apple or any of these services.

No warranty

To the extent the law allows, the app is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don’t promise that the app will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that it will work with every Mac, display, macOS version or calendar service. Some places don’t allow these exclusions, so some of them may not apply to you.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits or revenue, arising from your use of the app. Our total liability for any claim about the app is limited to the amount you paid for it. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Ending this license

You can stop using the app at any time by deleting it. If you seriously break these terms, your license ends and you must delete the app. Sections about refunds already paid, warranty, liability and general terms continue to apply.

General

  • These terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and the courts of Gujarat, India have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them. If you’re a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in.
  • If part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies.
  • We may update these terms for future versions. The date at the top shows when they last changed. Changes don’t reduce the rights you already have under a purchase you’ve made.
  • Mac, MacBook and macOS are trademarks of Apple Inc.
